Linda Magnussen is the President and Founder of LM Educational Advisory, LLC. As a Certified Educational Planner she advises students and their families with a wide variety of educational and career counseling services. In her previous roles as the Bridge College Counselor at Halcyon and Director of College Counseling at Southbank, international schools located in London, UK, she counseled a diverse group of seniors and juniors in conjunction with their families about the university application process for the US, UK and Canada. During her time in London, Linda created a successful private educational practice advising Americans located in the US and abroad, as well as international families around the world. She has always loved working with teenagers and enjoys helping young adults with their educational journeys and endeavors. Given the complexities surrounding the US college process, Linda enjoys helping students and families understand the landscape and navigate the steps required. Linda has familiarity with several educational approaches with the US and APs, the IB, and the UK system. Linda has spent many years visiting and researching colleges and universities in the US and abroad, as well as attending numerous association conferences and workshops to stay current with college profiles and trends in admissions. She enjoys being actively engaged in a variety of networks of college counseling and college admissions members, which is particularly critical during the current environment of uncertainty and confusion.
Linda also advises international high schools with their responsibilities and deliverables in the US college application process, and provides gap year advice, as well as major, career, as well as transfer and graduate school assistance to college students.
Linda enjoyed her role for many years as a university advisor and student mentor for the Sutton Trust initiative, in conjunction with the Fulbright Commission UK, that promotes underserved UK students, many of them first generation, to attend university in the US. Linda has been a Brown University Alumni Admissions Interviewer focusing on international students with a strong interest in attending Brown. Linda provided Brown’s Undergraduate Admissions Office with candid feedback on each applicant she interviewed and enjoys her strong tie to her alma mater. Linda’s background includes 7 years in various substitute teaching, staff and volunteer positions at The American School in London, and prior management experience in business management and consulting. She has also held leadership positions for several non-profits that focus on advancing the education of underserved children in Kenya and Newark, New Jersey, USA.
A graduate of Brown University, Linda majored in Psychology. She received her MBA from Harvard University. She is a Certified Educational Planner with the American Institute of Certified Educational Planners (AICEP) and holds a Certificate in College and Career Counseling from UCLA and a General Counseling Certificate from the University of London. She is a Professional Member of IECA, the Independent Educational Consultant Association. All services are provided in accordance to the ethical standards of IECA and AICEP.
